Arlo Pro 3 and 4 devices have two options to choose from to store the recorded files. Either you go with the paid cloud storage plan that comes with the monthly subscription or use the local storage facility to keep all the files on the local computer device or the USB storage device.

Arlo gives you complete freedom for a storage facility.

Does Arlo support local storage?

Yes. Arlo has a local storage facility. You can store the video files locally using a USB drive or a microSD card.

How do I store Arlo videos locally?

Arlo local storage requires the initial setup to allow the device to store the videos locally. Direct storage is useful when you have a privacy concern or want complete control over the Arlo camera device video.

The recorded videos will be available on SmartHub.

The storage files will be accessible from the SmartHub.

You do not have to plug the storage car into the computer device to read the files. The device uses point-to-point access for a seamless video viewing experience.

Before you start using the local storage, you have to make changes to the storage setting.

Setting up direct storage access

1) Get the Arlo app downloaded to your device.

2) Access to the Arlo SmartHub

3) Router

4) A USB or MicroSD device. Check the compatibility before buying the USB or MicroSD device.

Step by Step guide to setup Direct Storage Access

Use the following step-by-step guide to set up and start using the direct storage access on the local device.

1) Insert the microSD card or the USB device into your Arlo SmartHub.

The files will be directly stored in the SmartHub, which is easily accessible on the mobile app.

How does Arlo’s ultra-local storage work?

Arlo’s ultra-smart device enables users to store HD quality 4K Videos in three different ways. Local live streaming of the video, motion cloud recording, and recording to a local storage facility.

You can use the external storage device to store the video recording files on the SmartHub with the LAN connection.

Choose different options to set the recording type, frequency, and video quality.

To take the full benefits of 4K Video quality with Arlo Ultra, you may have to use the Arlo Smart Elite subscription plan.

What are the benefits of Arlo pro-local storage?

Local storage is a cheaper option compared to cloud storage. The recorded video files are stored locally, so you do not have to rely on cloud storage facilities. Local storage works similarly to cloud storage. You get to enjoy automatic motion detection and audio detection services.

Local storage gives you lifetime access to the stored file. The video files stored on the cloud are deleted after a specific date.

Cloud storage has a limitation in the recorded file. In the case of an internet outage, the video will be stored locally.

The file will be later uploaded when the internet service is resumed. Note that you eject the drive using the Arlo app to prevent the file from getting corrupted before you use the drive.

One of the biggest concerns that people will have is the privacy of their homes. The indoor or outdoor camera may record private footage, which will be stored in the cloud storage.

Administrators of the Arlo cloud storage would have access to these files. In some sense, cloud storage is vulnerable to hacking.

Whereas local storage gives you complete freedom to store the new video files securely in your home.

Store the video files in a password-protected computer device so that no one can access these files without your permission.

You get full control over your files. Delete unwanted files periodically to make more space available for future recording. You can move these files with the help of a USB device.
