C by GE is one of old smart bulb brand came to our houses. The company offered its products in many names in history.
Due to its long history, it does claim a few features that been released for the first time. Such as “Made for Google” label (which means C by GE can connect to any google home or speaker quite easily).
However, new C by GE smart bulbs products seems to have several problems with day to day operation.
Most of the bulbs tend to shown defects such as;
- C by GE bulb not responding to voice command
- C by GE bulb app unable to connect to the bulb
- Smart bulb unresponsive soon after an update
The solution for these issues is to factory reset the C by GE bulb. The same solution can be applied for any smart light strip from C by GE.
To be honest, the reset process of C by GE is quite troublesome. Even though the company has a long history, its product’s technological side still lacks flexibility.
Anyway, let’s check the easiest way to factory reset a C by GE smart bulb.
How to Reset C by GE Smart Bulb?
The reset process of C by GE is totally depend on a timed sequence. The sequence is to turn ON and OFF the bulb in given period. To activate the reset function, this process needs to be repeated for at least 8 times.
Step 1: First, you need to start with light off. To turn off your light, use the wall switch. Do not use the C by GE app switch. You need to turn off your smart bulb for 5 seconds.
Step 2: Now, you need to turn on your smart bulb for 8 seconds. To count the exact seconds, you can use any stopwatch or count as Mississippi 1 .. Mississippi 2..etc
Step 3: Then, you need to turn off your smart bulb for another 2 seconds.
Step 4: Again, you need to do this process (step 2 and step 3) for at least 5 more times. After that, the C by GE bulb will start to flash. If everything process successfully, the light will flash 3 times. If it isn’t flash, then it means you have missed a step or missed a time period. So you have repeat the whole process again.
The total process as follows:
- Start from the turn off stage
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds

- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb (now it should flash 3 times)
Step 5: Sometimes, even you have repeated the process, it can look like not working. If that’s the case for you, then it means you have an old version of C by GE bulb. The firmware version of 2.7 or earlier ones needs two more steps to be done.
That means you need to repeat the above steps for 6 times (not 5 times). Then it will work for your older bulbs.
Then the updated total process as follows:
- Start from the turn off stage
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb for 8 seconds
- Turn off the bulb for 2 seconds
- Turn on the bulb (now it should flash 3 times)
You can refer to this video to have a clear idea about the above process.
