Where do I put the Ring Chime Pro?

In this section, we’re going to tell you what’s the ideal place for your Ring Chime Pro and why putting it in an ideal place is important.

Putting the Ring Chime Pro in the right place is important. Why is it important? Because if you put the fish out of the water, what happens? Does it swim? No, it dies?

The same is the case with a Ring Chime Pro. If you put it out of the water, it won’t work. Alright, don’t put it in the water because that’s not what we meant.

What we meant was if you put the Ring Chime device in the wrong place, it won’t work or won’t work properly. So far everything makes sense? Awesome, now let’s move forward.

What are the things that an ideal place for Ring Chime Pro should have? We would like you to take a guess. Go ahead, take all your time and think things through.

Does it have something to do with electricity, or maybe a saxophone, alright stop. Stop thinking and don’t get angry with us because we’re just messing with you a little bit. Of course we know you don’t know what an ideal place for Ring Chime Pro needs, If you did, you wouldn’t be reading this post.

So let it out. Say a few bad words about us if you want, and it’s alright. Because we wanted to make sure we’ve got your complete attention before we move forward and we decided to do it with a little fun.

Now, we better have your undivided attention, because we know you’ve cursed at us just a little (at least a little is what we can hope for).

So without further ado, let us introduce to you the things that an ideal place for Ring Chime Pro should have.

  • A good internet connection
  • The distance between the router and Ring Chime Pro should be no more than 30 feet
  • No objects that could interfere with the connection

Now that you’ve got an overview of what we’re going to discuss next, let’s get into the details, shall we?

Good Internet Connection

A good internet connection is necessary for the Ring Doorbell to work properly. The connection should be strong (especially if the router is placed at a long distance), but we’re going to discuss this in detail further.

Now that you know a good internet connection is essential for Ring Doorbell to work properly, the question is how do you know whether your internet connection is good enough.

Now this one is a puzzle for you, isn’t it? We mean, without our help you wouldn’t be able to even know whether your internet connection is already good enough or you should do something to make it better. But here is the good news. You don’t have to worry about this problem, because we’re going to help you find out whether your internet connection is good or not.

There is only one way to check whether your internet connection is good enough or not. The way to check whether your internet connection is good is to measure its RSSI value (Received Signal Strength Indicator).

The optimal range of RSSI is between -60 and 0. So does it work. There you go, you’ve got your answer. We bet you’re jumping up and down celebrating that you’ve got your answer.

If this is truly your case, then congratulations, we’re so happy for you. But there is bad news we’ve got to deliver. The bad news is that the work is not over yet. Because we still need to discuss how to check the RSSI value.

The process for checking the RSSI values is actually quite simple. It involves 5 steps and we’ve written all of them below.

Are you ready to find out the strength of your internet signals? Awesome! Let’s do it then. Here is what you’ve got to do.

Step1: Click on the start menu at the bottom left of your screen.

Step 2: Click on the options called settings. It’s usually the second option from the bottom. But for some people it may be located in a different position.

In that case, don’t click on the second last option. Because then you won’t reach the Settings menu. So even if the Settings option is located on a different spot, click on it 🙂

Step 3: Click on the option called Network & Internet. It’s usually located below the option called Home. Again, if it’s located on some other spot, still click on it 🙂

Step 4: Now find the option called Status, and when you’ve found it, click on it.

Step 5: In this section, you’ll see an option called “Network Status.” Under this option, you’ll see a wireless icon and with that icon will be written the value of your RSSI.

Distance no more than 30 feet

This one is also important, because even if you’ve got a completely fine internet connection but your Ring Doorbell device is placed more than 30 feet away from the router, there will be issues.

What will be the issues? There can be two issues. The required levels of internet signals won’t reach the Ring Doorbell, therefore Ring Doorbell won’t efficiently and time to time malfunctions. Another issue could be that Ring Doorbell doesn’t get any signal at all and never works.

But, there is good news. If for some reason you just have to place the Ring Doorbell more than 30 feet away from the router there is a solution. Use an internet that has a high RSSI value. In such cases, the ideal RSSI value is 0.

No Objects

This is the final thing to note. But, there is a catch. The problem that we’re going to mention in this one can be caused by not one but several objects.

But don’t worry, we’ll tell you what type of objects would cause this problem. First, let’s identify the problem. What is the problem? The problem that certain objects can create is they can stop Ring Doorbell from receiving signals.

Therefore, even if your Ring Doorbell device is within the range of the router, it’s not a guarantee that it’ll receive the signals that it needs. There are plenty of objects that could be between your router and Ring Doorbell and they can stop the signals.

Below, we’re going to tell you each object that could cause this problem, so you can see whether they are in your area and get rid of them.

Here are the objects that could cause the problem.

  • Typical house applications such as microwave and cooking range.
  • Material similar to concrete and bricks.
  • Big electronic devices such as gaming systems and television.
  • The internet device with low upload speed.

Can I place Ring Chime Pro outside?

The short answer to this question is, Yes. But, make sure that you’ve provided some protection to your device for bad weather. Since it’s not weather proof, putting it outside without taking the proper safety measures can result in the device getting permanently damaged.

Finding an ideal place for your Ring Doorbell device is a necessary step. If you don’t take it, your device may not work properly or may not work at all.

Therefore, by reading this post you’ve got a great ROI for your time. You’ve learned everything you need to know for choosing an ideal place for your Ring Chime Pro.
